Experience Traditional Oaxacan Food in the Heart of Queens

Stepping into the colorful, welcoming atmosphere of Juquila Restaurant and bar feels like discovering a little slice of Oaxaca, Mexico in the heart of Queens, New York. Everything from the food to the tablecloths is a throwback to the traditional “fondas” of our hometown of Santa Catarina Juquila, deep in the mountains of Oaxaca. From our hearty Pozole soups to our rich, aromatic mole sauce, not to mention our mouth-watering quesadillas, tacos, and tostadas —
-- everything on our menu is made fresh daily on-site using authentic Mexican ingredients. Our chef Magdaleno Peña and culinary director Darion Mendez, both from Oaxaca, carefully crafted a menu inspired by the ingredients and techniques of the food markets back home. Our goal is for every customer who steps through our door to leave with a full belly, a full heart and a smile on their face!

Our Ingredients

  • 1.

    Hand-Made tortillas

Every town, village and market in Mexico has its “tortilla ladies”, and we do, too! They come in early every morning to make a fresh batch of 'masa', then cook soft, crispy tortillas on the stone comal. They’re the tasty base for our signature tacos, quesadillas and sopes, and a genuine taste of home.

  • 2.

    Fresh-pressed juices

Nothing tastes more like a glass of sunshine than our Mexican “aguas frescas”, made with real tamarind, horchata, fresh lime, and seasonal fruits. Oh, and our Margaritas are made fresh, too!

  • 3.

    Secret Avocado

The secret ingredient of authentic Oaxacan cuisine is toasted avocado leaves. Used in marinades, salsas and ground into spice mixes, they add a unique, smoky flavor to all our signature dishes and our popular complimentary black bean dip.
